This article highlights the growth of modern band and JamFest events in Iowa as a model for inclusive and student-centered music education. Drawing on examples such as Spectrum JamFest and AmpCamp, it illustrates how these non-competitive, performance-based experiences provide opportunities for students of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels to participate in music-making. Students take on active roles in selecting repertoire, making musical decisions, and performing original or arranged works, while teachers serve as facilitators. The article also introduces the development of the Iowa JamFest Series, which aims to expand access to diverse and culturally relevant music programs across the state. These initiatives demonstrate how broadening music education offerings can increase participation, engagement, and community connection.
